All accounts are hosted on powerful permanently connected machines. They can be accessed via SSH (version 2 only) over an existing dial-up or other internet connection, at high speed, from anywhere in the world.

Your username can be anything of your choice, provided it is not already in use at vwe.net. You may change your password at any time, via SSH, using the 'passwd' command. We advise people to change password on a regular basis, monthly is preferable, to ensure maximum system security. Please use non-dictionary words for your password and never disclose it to anyone. In the event that you forget or cannot change your password, please contact us to do it for you. We may impose a small charge for changing the password on your behalf, especially if you forget/request often.

SSH access is gained by connecting your SSH client to ssh.username.vwe.net or ssh.username.vweinternet.co.uk and providing your current username and password.

Each account has a quota of 25MB with an automatic cushion of 5MB for when things get a bit tight. Allowing a potential 30MB in total. The cushion is accompanied by a grace period of one week. Quota usage can be measured by:

Quota = mailbox + uploaded, downloaded or installed files + WWW logs & data files

We allow users to make full use of system-installed software and will consider additional software on request. You may install, compile or program non-system software within your ~username directory structure, provided it is kept soley for personal use.

We currently offer the following categories in software

• Networking - including FTP, EMail, WWW (text only), IRC and SSH clients.
  
• Databases - all software installed by request.
  
• Compilers, Environments & Programming Languages - all software installed by request.
  
• Cryptographic - for personal privacy and security.

Our WWW (World Wide Web) service provides you with a choice of URL from two formats http://www.username.vwe.net/ or http://www.username.vweinternet.co.uk. We allow FTP access to upload web pages and related files to your site. Simply point an FTP client at username.vwe.net or username.vweinternet.co.uk and supply your current username and password.

We offer unlimited EMail addresses, as unlimited_names@username.vwe.net or unlimited_names@username.vweinternet.co.uk, that will resolve to a single mailbox of username@username.vwe.net or username@username.vweinternet.co.uk. Access to the box can be gained in two ways:

1. A menu driven client from the command prompt via SSH.
   
2. Via POP3 using a standard EMail client pointed at pop.username.vwe.net or pop.username.vweinternet.co.uk, giving your username and current password.
